EU Import Regulations
Nutmeg and mace imported into the EU must comply with Commission Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 setting maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs. Aflatoxin limits are strictly enforced. Products may require steam sterilization treatment.
Quality Standards
Indonesian nutmeg grades include ABC (70-75/80 lb), BWP (Broken Without Pest), and Dustless. Quality parameters include moisture content (max 12%), ash content (max 3%), and essential oil content. Banda Islands nutmeg commands premium pricing.
US FDA Requirements
Nutmeg and mace imported into the US must comply with the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Products must be free from filth, adulteration, and properly labeled. FDA may detain products exceeding aflatoxin action levels.
