Import Regulations
EU Import Regulations
Vanilla imports into the EU must comply with Regulation (EC) No 834/2018 for organic products if labeled organic. Maximum residue limits for pesticides are strictly enforced under Regulation (EC) No 396/2005. Vanilla must meet minimum vanillin content standards.
Quality Standards
EU vanilla quality standards specify minimum vanillin content (1.5-2.5% for Bourbon vanilla), moisture content (max 25%), and absence of mold and insect damage. Products are graded by length, appearance, and aroma profile.
US FDA Requirements
Vanilla imported into the US must comply with FDA standards for identity and labeling. Pure vanilla extract must contain 13.35% vanilla bean minimum. FDA enforces standards for adulteration and misbranding.
